With both Parsi and Italian heritage, composer and recording artist King Jamsheed moved to Brighton for university and stayed for the diversity. Identity colours every aspect of music and knowing who you are and what you believe in is key to understanding life.
What does your identity mean to you?
I am never truly represented in music or the arts. Despite being a person of colour, I never saw myself on MTV as a kid. I don’t think anyone really is fully represented, so my goal is to make the music that’s been missing my whole life: inclusive, diverse, specific, queer and beautiful.
I identify as queer, a trans-ally and a proudly polyamorous Euro-Asian lefty. Life is very short. Without knowing your true identity, it can only be wasted.
