Martin Kaufman
Of Ashkenazi Jewish and Gaelic Irish heritage, Martin got involved with the Gay Liberation Front in London from the end of 1970 and co-founded Reading Gay Alliance in 1971. He was on the first Gay Pride March in London on 1 July 1972 and since 1998 has sung with the London Gay Men’s Chorus, of which he is a Trustee and a volunteer adviser on fundraising to Legato, the European federation of LGBTQ Choirs. Professionally, he works as a fundraising consultant, mainly with educational and cultural charities.
What does your identity mean to you?
It’s about who I am, how I connect with other people, and what I can learn from my own history that is relevant today.
