Alfonso, Barnet, UK

Alfonso Pezzella

Alfonso moved to Hendon in 2008 from Italy to study and has made Barnet his home since 2009.

He is now the Director of Mental Health programmes and a senior lecturer at Middlesex University.

He leads a European project (IENE 9) that aims to develop teaching and learning tools to be used by health and social care educators to improve their knowledge and confidence in teaching LGBT+ issues.

What does your identity mean to you?

Coming from a small town in the south of Italy my sexual identity has been a challenges to accept and express.

I am now openly gay, and I take pride in my identity so that I can be a role model. I teach and research LGBTQ+ issues and mental health and I hope that I can support people through their journeys in understanding their identity and embrace it.
