The IDENTITY Project

Catherine, UK

Catherine

Catherine has always been certain that she didn’t want to conform to any labels or stereotypes, including her sexuality, for as long as she can remember. Her attraction to others is based on personality and the connection that they build, rather than their gender.

Catherine grew up with acceptance from friends and family alike, regardless of the gender and identity of the person she took to meet them. She counts herself as fortunate to have found acceptance and support for most of her working life. She is acutely aware that not everyone has enjoyed this acceptance and never takes it for granted. It helps her to champion others and not make assumptions.

What does your identity mean to you?

β€œIt’s something that is unique to me, and it also represents freedom. Freedom from labels and freedom from attraction based on gender alone. It’s a powerful thing to accept this and embrace it for what it is.
