Damian, London, UK

Damian

Damian lives in West London with his partner of ten years, Graham. Since coming out, he’s been lucky to have the full acceptance of his family and friends. A fierce clubber back in the day on London’s vibrant gay scene, he now enjoys cooking, eating out and holidays abroad with his partner and close friends.

What does your identity mean to you?

Since my late teens, my sexuality has been a large part of who I am. My quest to find other people like me in a world that is dominated by heterosexuality meant I had to be overt about this part of my identity for a long time to find my tribe. As I get older, this part of my identity is still hugely important, but so are other parts too, like my career, my reputation, my personality, my image, how I treat others and my contribution back to the LGBTQIA+ community.

I often wonder if your identity is something that you hold and have control of or whether it is a culmination of the opinions and thoughts of others about you that create it.
