The IDENTITY Project

Gail Smith, SGLF, UK

gail smith

chair of the sussex gay liberation front

Involved with Sussex GLF in early 70’s, Gail was chair during the period they held the first dance in the Royal Pavilion. She picketed outside The Spotted Dog pub, when they threw the GLF out for distributing leaflets, claiming it wasn’t a gay bar, when it was obviously frequented upstairs by closeted gay men!

What does your identity mean to you?

I’m Proud to be gay.
