The IDENTITY Project

Minister of Religion, Brighton, UK

Michael Hydes

Michael began his working life as a chef, and then trained and worked as a computer Engineer. After studying Theology at Kings College London he was ordained by Metropolitan Community Churches and has run an emergency shelter for LGBT youth in Manhattan, lead an openly LGBT rooted church in Maryland USA, testified at senate committee hearings on behalf of same sex marriage, been pastor at an LGBT centric church in Brighton UK, and chaplain in the wider community as a funeral celebrant.

Married to a wonderful man with whom he shares a home, a mini, and a beagle, Michael struggles with his weight, is angered by inequality, and loves Jesus.

What does your identity mean to you?

My ministry has always been about affirming LGBT+ siblings as children of God. My identity is synonymous with my calling to reduce suffering in the world by celebrating love and diversity and speaking out against hate and discrimination.
