The IDENTITY Project

Volunteer, Brighton, UK

Richard Jeneway

As an older, openly gay man, Richard has been living with HIV for 25 years which has resulted in blindness causing him to adapt to seeing and feeling the world around him differently.

His outlook of the world has heightened his spirituality, view of life and its meaning.

Music has always been a big part of Richard’s life but since losing his sight has become even more important than he could have ever imagined and, despite all the barriers, Richard lives life independently and feeling connected to the local LGBTQ+ community through regular volunteering within the HIV sector, as a trustee for a local HIV charity and a Mentor.

What does your identity mean to you?

I am an openly gay, active older man, a free spirited sensitive but resilient person true to myself with a holistic approach to my daily life.
