Boogaloo Stu, Brighton, UK

Boogaloo Stu

Boogaloo Stu was born from the loins of the early nineties Brighton club scene, running the legendary club night Dynamite Boogaloo for many years. Three decades later, he is still one of the most distinctive entertainers around.
From his roots in fashion design, cabaret performance and DJ-ing, Stu subsequently sharpened his skills as a theatre-maker. With his audience always at the heart of his work, he has developed other stage characters and toured nationally with a number of unique and innovative shows.
More recently, Stu has been honing his talents as a visual artist, creating beautiful psychedelic dioramas.

What does your identity mean to you?

As Boogs, I have a front-facing persona that is bold, gregarious and fairly fruity. When the Quiff of Confidence goes on, there is instantly a whiff of nonchalant self-assurance! But, while I am comfortable in my own skin, in my day-to-day life I can be very shy and reserved. So my identity is a curious mix, really.
